Pretty much anywhere on Sukhumvit will make it easy to get around.

I generally stay in Siam Square or MBK area. Novotel on Siam Square is my first choice. For a budget option Ibis or Holiday Inn Express near MBK. I've stayed in the Emporium Suites in Sukhumvit which was nice enough but it's not my favourite part of Bangkok.

We’ve stayed near Chinatown easy to get to metro central station. Also stayed near the park with the lizards in bit of a seedy area. But best bet is to look on hotels.com and find a hotel you like in your price range near metro or sky train. Makes life a lot easier.
