Passport validity

Does anyone know how long left you need on your passport to travel to countries within Europe? I’ve looked on various websites and some people say 3 months, others 6 months so it would be great to get some clarity. The country we are looking at is Italy Smile

So long as we are in the EU, it is one day from the date of return.
Airlines tend to have their own rules.

Ah so as long as they are valid for the duration of our stay it should be ok? We are looking to book up for April but passports expire in September, do you think this will be ok? Just that others have said they have been turned away from airports for not having 6 months on passports (but these were comments on trip advisor from a few years ago so not sure if things have changed since then?)

It really depends what happens with Brexit. If that goes ahead you would need 6 months validity plus if extra months were added to your previous passport making it valid for more than 10 years then those extra months wont count either.

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/italy/entry-requirements currently needs to be valid for length of stay. No deal brexit changes it

This is what confuses me. The first paragraph under the passport section on the government website states it only needs to be valid for the length of stay but the third paragraph states that all adult and child passports should have 6 months validity, surely this is a contradiction?!

The bit about 6 months validity is preceded by this paragraph:

The rules for travel to most countries in Europe will change if there’s a no-deal Brexit. If your adult passport was issued over 9 years ago, you may be affected. You should usethis toolto check your passport is still valid for your trip before booking travel.

(It is explaining how things would change re. Passport validity)

Ah ok thanks for that. Looks like we’ll be waiting until after brexit to book up then at this rate. Sad

This is up to date from the Foreign Office website

I already linked to that yesterday
