Where would you go on holiday alone at new year?

Would like a few things to see, but guessing new year will mean things will be closed wherever I go

Now where too cold as I'll just get tied to hotel and bored...

What, actual New Year?

How long did you want to stay for?

Thailand / Bali / Lombok / Vietnam / Cambodia etc.

Away from the UK if you would like warmth, what is your budget?

Budget not too much - circa a grand max?

Probably don't want to fly for more than about 4-5 hours

Northern Lights cruise?

Canaries won't be closed at New Year. Maybe NYD but will be open on the other days. The evening of the 5th January is the Three Kings Parade, which is the biggest part of Christmas in Spain, so a great thing to see.

I'd stay in the White Suites hotel in Playa Blanca Lanzarote, there's a spa and lots to do on the island that don't involve lazing in the sun, although hopefully you'd get the weather for that too, such as vineyards, caves, volcano park boat trips, watersports etc.
