We stayed at the Bauer for our 10th. Central but not on the busy waterfront, you can eat breakfast overlooking the Grand Canal and listen to gondoliers passing under your window. Nice waterfront restaurant a few blocks along too. Arrive by Water Taxi, it feels very decadent and is a lot less hassle than a waterbus.

fizzylemonade · 20/08/2007 17:45

I assume you have big budget if you looking at 4*, how many nights are you going for?

poppy90 · 20/08/2007 20:16

well.. It's not a BIG budget , we going 3 nights

We have just go back from Venice, we stayed at the Ca Maria Adele. Fabulous romantic boutique hotel (B&B) just across the grand canal from st Marks so you are near to the action but it is in a lovely quiet area. There is a vaporetta stop just beside it so it is easy to get to anywhere from there. We loved it. It is listed on tripadvisor and expedia. We flew Ryan air which was a lot cheaper than BA. They put on a coach that takes you to the main terminus at venice. Costs about £4 return and takes about 40 minutes. We got a 3 day pass on the vaporetta, great for getting about and much cheaper than a water taxi.

DH and I stayed here a couple of years ago. Our room was lovely, quite plush. The breakfast room was a bit disappointing, usual buffet, surroundings a bit canteen-like. Location is perfect - facing the Grand Canal about 100 metres from St Marks Square. Ideal when arriving by waterbus from the airport.

Booked it through octopustravel website.

£400 each maybe but not total . Sorry but Venice is £££ all year round, you may need to shop around more .

ChippyMinton · 20/08/2007 21:36

Look on tripadvisor (good reviews - phew!) for links to eg expedia. Depends when you go but it can be around the £100/night mark.

We stayed here , www.capisanihotel.it, during August 2005. Very nice hotel and handy for the touristy bits. Very of the fab bathroom tiles. Think dh found it in one of the "hip hotels" range of books. Enjoy your trip .

fizzylemonade · 21/08/2007 09:56

Ok, we stayed in a tiny hotel back in 2005, if you have seen Casino Royal it is down that passage way just off St Marks square that the leading woman runs down and James Bond follows. It wasn't anything special but to be honest we only slept there, ate breakfast and came back before evening to freshen up.

It was up on the first floor of a non-descript building past a glass makers. Staff were lovely, breakfast was typical basic buffet, bread, cheese, pates etc there was no view, the bedroom window only opened to let air in and about 5 feet away was another building (very typical in Venice)

But the magic wasn't in the room, it was Venice itself, getting lost (make sure you get a map from the hotel)eating the most amazing food, the high buildings and winding streets, getting around by water bus. Breath taking views and architecture. Ah, very fond memories. I was pregnant, had vile morning sickness and yet nothing could stop that holiday being truly fantastic. We palmed our only child at the time off to both sets of Grandparents, and enjoyed 4 days in Venice, me, DH and a growing tummy (from the baby!!!)

see my poor hotel - google Hotel San Gallo Venice they have their own website (my computer playing up at moment)St Marks is literally 1 minute walk away.

Hi.. we stayed at the Hotel Vila Mabapa on the Lido island.. Booked it through Expedia and was quite reasonable as was the week before the Venice Film Festival.. I was about 6 months pregnant at the time and really appreciated staying just out of the madness of the main areas.
Our only complaint was the hideous food we ate at a restaurant beside the Grand Canal..very expensive pasta n sauce! That said, it was well worth it all round

Hope you have an amazing time!

poppy90 · 24/08/2007 09:54

Thank you
