Hotel or Holiday appartment in Granada

We are looking to spend 3-4 days in Granada next Summer before being at the coast for another week.

Can anyone recommend a hotel or appartment? We plan to have a car so parking should be an option.

Yes, I stayed in an amazing hotel right by the river. I can’t remember the name but I’m posting now so I remember to ask DH tomorrow.

The Parador hotel in the Alhambra! Amazing hotel, have dinner in the terrace overlooking the Alhambra and get to wander about some if it after hours after the hoardes have left! There's a lovely walk down into the old town too.

Oh God yes, if you can afford the Parador, do that. I'd love to stay in one but it's always looked expensive.

We've stayed in a couple of hotels in Plaza Nueva which is at the bottom of the walk up to the Alhambra and well placed to walk up into the Albacin to a nice square full of tapas restaurants and the viewpoint where you can see the Alhambra lit up at night but the rooms were quite small. When we go again, I think we'll look for an apartment for more space.

Think you'll struggle for parking in the city though unless you use a multi storey and pay.

When we did a tour of Andalusia we got a one way car hire from Malaga airport to Granada railway station for the first couple of days that we were up in the mountains and then travelled between Granada and Seville and back to Malaga on trains and coaches to avoid paying for a car and then paying more to park it.

Parador hotel is a beautiful place to stay. Really special.

reluctantbrit · 09/11/2019 18:35

Thanks, will check the hotel out.

We will fly into Almeria so it may be more efficient to get a transfer to Granada or a one way hire as we don’t really need the car in Granada until the last day to drive down to the coast.

Forgot to say, DD, then 13, will be with us so I wonder about a hotel anyway as I think she is too young for her own room but too old to share.

We stayed in Smart Suites Albaicin earlier this year. Booked a superior apartment and it was fab. They do have parking but you are a much braver woman than me! I would not fancy driving thru the streets of the Albaicin.
We caught the Alsa bus from Malaga Airport, cheap and easy and then a taxi to the apartment.
I loved Granada, it was one of the best short trips we’ve done. Have a great time Smile

I wouldn't get a car for Granada, there is an exclusion zone so we ended up leaving the rental car parked for 5 days. We stayed in a traditional apartment I found on booking.com, it was lovely, but had about 70 steps up to it.

sniffingthewax · 09/11/2019 18:49

It was called Cuesta Alcazaba.

Mine was called El Ladron de Agua Arts Hotel. Just a short walk from the Alhambra (book that as far is advance as you can) and do, so beautiful.

CottonSock · 10/11/2019 09:23

Check it has air conditioning.

reluctantbrit · 10/11/2019 15:27

@BellaEnd The appartment really looks lovely. How did you solve breakfast? Are there any cafes around to go or a supermarket to get some staples like drinks?

You can order food and drinks from a fairly extensive list at reception and they drop it to your apartment in a wicker shopping basket at your requested time slot each morning! It was brilliant.
I honestly wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place, excellent location and spotlessly clean too. 😃

BarbaraofSeville · 10/11/2019 16:16

It certainly does look lovely Bella. Thanks for that, I've put it on my 'where to stay if we ever go back to Granada' list.

BellaEnd · 10/11/2019 16:17

Also one or two little supermarkets within a couple of mins walk of the apartments with everything you could need.

Swishyswash · 10/11/2019 16:24

We stayed here www.carmenrealrealejo.es/en-gb a couple of months ago. Lovely little hotel with the bonus of a pool. We had breakfast in the little hostel a few steps down the hill.

reluctantbrit · 10/11/2019 17:33

Thanks all. We think an apartment is the way forward as DD gets so fed up with a sleep sofa or similar and we don’t really want to share a room anymore.

Planning a Summer holiday when you are stuck indoor because it is dark at 5pm is lovely.

We stayed here last Easter. There is parking which is useful because we visited Ronda, Cordoba and the Caminito del Rey which is an absolute must do! We had 2 bases - Antequera & Granada. Make sure that you book tickets online a few weeks ahead of your holiday for your must see sights.

We have stayed at the Palacio de Santa Ines twice.

The views of the Alhambra are amazing and it is right in the Albayzín . The breakfast was decent and there was free coffee and cake in the afternoons. We went once as a couple and once with the kids where we had a duplex room. Obvs would love to stop at the Parador or the Washington Irving, but budget wouldn't allow. We drove and stayed in a city centre car park the hotel had a deal with.
