Would love to book a summer holiday for 2020 with our young adult children early 20's. We have to go in the school holidays so August time
We like nice weather food wine scenery national parks some nightlife music etc.
Have got quite a lot of air miles which we'd like to try and use they are with virgin so slightly limited but where should we try for?
We have been to quite a few places in America California New York Boston etc
Was thinking of southern states but will be very hot so probably not good for us .
Any ideas gratefully received

In our summer the most obvious answer is somewhere in Europe but I’m guessing you’re looking to use the air miles up in one hit? From the examples you’ve given of places you’ve visited and enjoyed, all first world destinations - how keen are you and the family on visiting somewhere in the 2nd/3rd world which May feel very different? Sorry OP for the questions, trying to get a feel for what you and yours would be comfortable with!

My first thought was Canada - it’s brutal in winter but great in summer. I’ve only been to the East Coast and would suggest flying into Toronto, moving onto Montreal by train then Quebec and then flying out of Quebec. I’d rent a car and a cottage somewhere like Haliburton in Ontario for the nature bit. You could also do a day trip to Niagara by train or bus. I’ve not been to Western Canada but the scenery is outstandingly beautiful - I’d definitely look at that.

We’ve been to Costa Rica in August - it’s their rainy season but in practice that we experienced a daily thunderstorm in the evening or afternoon which wasn’t a huge deal at all. It’s the safest Central American country and very beautiful with a huge amount of wildlife. The food was ok (if not particularly great!). There are a lot of adventure type of activities on offer which the DC might enjoy as well as fabulous beaches, rainforests etc. To the best of my knowledge, Virgin don’t fly there direct so that would involve a transfer.

Just done a quick google for you on long haul destinations that are great in our summer - no idea if Virgin fly there but this was the result:

  • Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan (Thailand)
  • Botswana
  • Canada
  • The Pantanal (Brazil)
  • South Island, NZ (for skiing, mountains, bars and wine)
  • Colombia
-Fiji

Hope some of this helps!

Yes that is really helpful
I've been reflecting on all above and maybe we will go to Europe in the summer and use the air miles for Easter 2021 if we are all fit and well.
Some fantastic planning ideas will also check Costa Rica sounds perfect
