Gran Canaria - what is it like?

Thinking about going to Gran Canaria, what is it like?

Would be going out of season.

I went and I hated it, but I think I went to the worng part. It was all nightclubs, and they even employed a bloke to go round in the mornings cleaning up the sick.

Oh and avoiding 18-30 areas!!

Oh please tell I have booked for January ! I went by trip advisor to be honest !

I am about to go to Anfi, which is a bit of an exclusive resort. My mum owns out there and invited us to go with her this year. The beach is like something from a Pacific island, there are 4 hotels/sets of appartments, which share loads of pools, facilities, shops, promenade and the beach/marina. It is gorgeous.

I have been told to stay away from Playas though, which is supposedly a Spanish Blackpool. I don't like package holidays or things like that, so am hoping I really like Anfi when we get there on Monday.
