I’m looking at a last min deal to Egypt for October half term. It’s for the Hurghada region, hotel etc looks lovely.
Just worried about all the terrorism etc out there? It’s with my 4 and 6 year old.
Has anyone been recently? Would anyone go?
Thanks 😊

Personally no. I would love to go to Egypt but if I did, I’d want to go out and actually see it rather than be stuck in some resort where I could be anywhere at all. There have just been too many incidents in recent years that would make me feel uncomfortable doing that. Having said that, it’s just personal and everyone wants different things from a holiday and if you are happy to stay mostly inside a resort and just want sunshine I’m sure it would be fine!

If you are happy to travel from the airport to the hotel and back again and not leave the hotel at all then fine. if not then there are so many other brilliant places that you could go I just wouldnt. Cyprus would be perfect at this time of year - loads to see, good weather etc. The reason its a deal and cheap is because no one else wants it.

Have been to Hurghada twice in the last 18 months and honestly there is nothing to worry about. you might want to consider a hotel on the makadi complex as it is a huge gated complex with a number of hotels and no-one gets in unless staying or working at the hotels and it has a large securyity gate at the entrance to the complex.

We went last October half term and it was great, mostly stayed in the hotel and did only 1 excursion out of the hotel.

The hotel had a water park and funfair for the kids and it only cost us something like £70 per night for a room. Security was really tight as in you couldn't get through the main gate without a reservation and taxis were only allowed in if u had prebooked them and had the driver and vehicle details.

We've been to Hurghada. You're not missing anything if you don't go. There's no history/sights - it's just another man made tourist resort with some big hotels/resorts. Absolutely fine if that floats your boat, i.e. beach, sea, etc., but don't expect any culture.

When we went, we took a 2 day trip by air to Cairo to see the museum, pyramids, sphinx etc - that made the whole holiday for us. Hurghada was fine for the odd day of relaxing, but we couldn't spend a whole week doing nothing but beach, pool etc.

I agree with the poster above, if it were me, I'd be going to Cyprus instead. Shorter flight, more to see & do, friendlier locals and less risk.

We are in Egypt (albeit Cairo) right now and feel very safe. Kids are 4 and 6. We’ve done 2 days out with a tour company to see the sights and have spent 2 days just relaxing at the hotel pool—alternating sightseeing days with pool days to keep everyone happy. Can recommend the JW Marriott which has brilliant pool cabana rooms that will sleep a family of 4. The hotel has a free shuttle service that even did our passports for us on arrival, so we have been looked after the entire time. Have a look at High End Journeys if you want days out—we hired them for a private car and guide for our days out and and they have done a fabulous job making our sightseeing interesting and fun for the whole family. Everyone we have met in restaurants and markets have been so kind and welcoming and we have not felt unsafe at all. Just bring boostapaks as none of the cars have car seats!

Just to update in case anyone else is wondering. We went. It was amazing! No issues at all. Felt very safe. Everyone friendly. Did a trip into the desert and all was fine. Can’t wait to go back!!
