Travelling the M40

We are travelling up the M40 from London to Liverpool with our 3yo DD. Can anyone suggest places for us to stop that aren't just boring services! She's not great at sleeping in the car so need plenty of options to detour off and let her run around for a bit to burn off her energy! Thanks!

How sad that I have my favourite motorway service stations!

My absolute favourite on the m40 is the Gloucester services - the one with the green turf roof - more like a farmers market inside

But I've never driven up from London that way so not entirely sure if you join further up and so would miss them?

Near to Junctions 11 and 12 of the M6 is Cannock Chase, at the Forestry Centre there’s a children’s playground and the Gruffalo trail as well as a cafe and toilets.

Gloucester services is M5 not M40

smudgedpostcard.com/just-off-the-motorway-family-friendly-places-to-stop/

This is the website I've used but there's not much in it for the M40

Just off junction 12 (Gaydon) is the Burton Dasset Hills country park.

@WinkysTeatowel
🤦‍♀️ I spend so much time on the motorways they all look the same in the end 🤣

There is nothing I'd stop for on the m40 it's all really crap and boring unless you feel like stopping off at Bicester village for the outlet centre

I’d take a picnic and stop at Burton Dasset let your dd run around, take a pocket kite for her to fly. Alternative to a picnic is visit burton dasset for a run around and then drive to either The Herb Center or Ettington for a coffee and cake - both villages places not far from the M40

Warming ToB is where the herb Center is - you’d get of at Banbury and follow the B4100 which runs parallel to M40 and then get back on at Gaydon

There is a nice cricket club with tea shop at lighthorn and Chesterton has a great windmill to visit and run round for those you’d get of at Gaydon and get back on at Leamington/warwick

I'd second the Burton Dasset suggestion. Plenty of room for DD to run around safely and a superb view too.

If you haven't gone already, that is!
