Italy spending money

Hey guys,

Can anyone advise me roughly how much money to take to Italy for 2 weeks? We have bed and breakfast and are visiting cinque terre, lucca, Florence and Rome, just looking for a rough idea to make sure I've got enough changed. Thanks!

It’s hard to judge as no idea of specifics but we were surprised how Italy was expensive particularly in tourist areas...we managed to get to an aldi no problem and lots cheaper. So my recommendation would be to go a little further out and price drops significantly for food etc

Totally depends on whether you're eating picnic lunches and pizza slice dinners, or going fancy pants.

But I wouldn't worry about changing much money, just take a card (eg Monzo or Revolute) that doesn't charge for overseas transactions, and spend as you would at home. Much easier.

I’m not sure on specifics (it’s been a while since I’ve been to Italy) but given that Paris is likely to be comparable to a similar city in Italy, I recently watched a travel vlog where it was €35 for a single bottle of Coca Cola (The little glass bottles!). Admittedly that was in what was likely to be quite a fancy restaurant - with a rooftop view of the Eiffel Tower - but still, I think you’ll find it expensive in most tourist spots in Italy.

I second getting a Revolut card or similar. Used it for a week in Italy last month, absolutely brilliant and no fees.

Also, I lived in Italy for three years and prices are pretty similar to here. Can have cheap and cheerful €5 pizzas or meals costing €€€!

DW and I would typically spend about EU100 per day (have done that trip). We travel quite cheaply, you could easily spend way more.

You aren't literally taking it with you, are you? You have a travel credit or debit card right?

Placemarking. Off to Rome in two weeks.

We were planning to get a starling card but I've not used one before so I just assume you transfer a set amount onto it and go from there? If I use it all am I able to transfer more easy enough does anyone know? Was working on £1800 for 2 weeks, with all trains and accommodation pre paid for, but potentially a few day trips and food to pay for.

With my Revolut card, I transferred some money onto it to pay for a meal while the waitress stood at the table with the card reader. Took 30 seconds and then I paid the bill. So, yes, very easy to transfer money if you need to!

Halifax Clarity is great for travel. Then just some cash for bottles of water etc

I found prices similar to London ones so whatever you would spend here if on holiday. Excursions can generally find prices online. I wouldn't take masses of cash, use a card.
