We are planning our family holiday for next year and want some advice on which is the best area to go? Dd will be 3 and Ds 18 months.

Protaras - it's where the Cypriots actually go. Er, it's near touristy places like Ayia Napa (if that's what you like, can't stand AN myself, too many sweaty drunken men!) but it's an hours drive from the nearest airport (Larnaca)

Paphos - Has its own airport, bit more cultural maybe (lots of ancient sites), closer to the mountains with things to see.

Both just as good for beachy type things tbh. Ideally staying in the middle (Limassol) would give you more options, although I've driven down from Proteras to Paphos before now, only takes a couple of hours. Not sure what the resort is like at Paphos as we've never stayed there - only visited for the day.

Personally I like Protaras, but it could just be because I know it better, but should also add that I'm not that up on hotels etc as we tend to stay with family Should say though that it gets really, really hot there in July/August and with children that young you should consider going earlier or later in the season or be prepared to spend the late mornings/afternoons/early evenings sheltering anywhere with decent AirCon.

I would vote for Protaras, the beaches are nicer IMO. I didn't like Paphos at all - far too 'English' and, for that matter, far too many English too. I don't wish to offend anyone of course but we've been blessed enough to travel fairly extensively and Paphos has been my least favourite destination . I much prefered the east of the island. The Troodos mountains are very scenic though but with young children it is quite a long drive. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time.
