Where can I go to in Spain??

Looking to holiday in Spain as accommodation on air bnb seems cheaper next August than other places but don't want to go to big resort areas. No big hotels etc but we do want a beach, is that possible in Spain?

No, every metre of the Spanish coast is exactly like Benidorm.

But seriously, probably far less than 5% of Spain's beaches are in 'big resort hotel' areas, so there's oodles of other choices.

Estepona is a nice small town at the Western end of the Costa del sol, popular with Spaniards, but will be roasting in August.

There's lots of nice areas on the north coast around Santader/San Sebastian/Bilbao if you want less hot. Also the area on the north 'south' coast if you see what I mean - areas between the French border and Barcelona.

I've been to the La Herradura which was also glorious.

There's also the city beaches of places like Malaga, Barcelona, Alicante for culture as well as beaches.

Endless choice if you think outside a very limited box.

Just over the French border is still relatively uncommercialised, L'escala etc. As is the northern coast, Gijon area, Santander area.
Further south Costa de la Luz, Isla Canela etc.

We did this summer, flew to Alicante, Airbnb between Alicante & El Campello. About 10 minutes walk from beach. Really quiet but with a few good restaurants.

We are about 10 minutes from Estepona at the moment. It’s beautiful. Hire a car. See Ronda, Cadiz, Sevilla, Granada.
