Visiting Bologna: where to stay and what to do with a toddler?

Dh has a work-related trip to Bologna planned in November. We would like to take dd (20 months) there and go for a long weekend. Can anyone recommend a good, family-friendly hotel? I'd also appreciate suggestions for places in the city to take dd to.

We took dd to Bologna when she was about the same age and had a good time, although a weekend was long enough. We went in Jan and it was V.Cold! Hotel was ok - I can't remember the name of it, but it wasn't anything amazing. All the restaurants were great - not blinking an eyelid when dd hurled bolognese sauce around the place and smashed an ashtray. Her favourite place was an art gallery where she hurtled up and down shouting 'baby baby' at all the Madonna & Child pictures - again the curators didn't seem to mind in the slightest. There's a big piazza thing that is good for chasing pigeons and loads of cafes that serve really thick hot chocolate. The major drawback we found was that restaurants don't open til relatively late and dd was not v.good at dining past her bedtime after a hard day terrorising pigeons, so we tended to have a large lunch and then snack tea.
