Barcelona or Malaga in October.

I am looking to book one of these two destinations for the October half term holidays. Which would be ideal for a family with three kids aged 3, 7 and 9? We are wanting to do some sightseeing and some relaxing by the beach. Which of the two will have the better weather? And which is more budget friendly?

Don’t know Barcelona so can’t compare but we went to Malaga last October. Had a lovely time. Weather was cooler than it normally is at that time apparently but had some sunny days as well as couple really rainy ones. Loads to visit nearby if you hire a car eg Ronda, Granada. Stayed in Malaga itself (I liked it a lot: museums, nice food), and then beach place along coast. Bit too cold to swim in the sea (although we did as we’re a bit mad). Got Appartment in complex with small pool which my son loved. V reasonable price.

Could you advise which apartments you stayed at? Thanks.

We had a few days in Barcelona and it was nice, beach was busy at the weekend but quieter during the week.

I got some information on a thread on here, would def recommend the Science Museum but either take a bus up the hill or cut through the hospital and use the escalators to cut out a bit of walking! Not been to Malaga so can't compare.

Thank you. Are the museums free to visit? Also what are the prices like for food?

I prefer Malaga. It feels friendlier.
DS loves the Alcazabar (moorish palace).

Weather mostly likely better in Malaga but weather at the end of October is a bit unpredictable. Both have lots to see both in the city and nearby. Both have great beaches. Your money will go further in Malaga and the rest of Andalucia as the Costa Brava is petty expensive imo.

I had 8 and 15 yr olds who loved Barcelona last year . But we do love a dirty break . We spend a week there last August and were blown away . Didn’t do the beach though as we headed down to Port Aventura for the second week

Sorry city break not dirty break !

I’m off to Malaga in October. I’ve been to Barcelona and whilst there’s lots to do and see, it was riddled with scammers and pickpockets.
I’d only got off the Airport bus, when the woman next to me had her handbag grabbed! It was shocking.
Although this can happen anywhere I’ve not heard that Malaga is particularly unsafe.
