Mexico a few days off Between Mexico City & Oaxaca

I'm off to Mexico next week with work, got a few days off and hope to travel around a little (am with a colleague).
We were thinking of Puebla & Orizaba or Cuernavaca & Tepoztlan.
We will be travelling by public transport, will have a few days in Mexico City and Oaxaca, would like somewhere beautiful to spend a couple of night in.
Anyone been to these areas? Any suggestions?

Hello! Cuernavaca and Tepoztlán are both very beautiful, you'd need a day each and you take the bus from the "Terminal del Sur".

Puebla Is pretty too, many colonial/historic buildings and it's the birthplace of Mole. I would spend a couple of days there. You take the bus from "La Tapo". My family Is from Orizaba (a hospital is named after my grandfather) but I don't think it's with a visit IMO.

Oaxaca is absolutely wonderful and you need at least 3 days.

Thanks @rainbowhairdontcare !....Do you thinks its feasible to try and get to the Ocean as part of the trip, or not. There's so much to see, and so little time!
I've never been to Mexico before and not sure when I could go again, so I'm feeling the pressure of FOMO!

That's amazing about the hospital being named after your Grandfather....whats the story behind that?

He was a revolutionary :) . You could go to Acapulco (2 hrs away from Cuernavaca) but I'm not a fan. Huatulco Is at least 6 hours away from Oaxaca. You could go to Cancun/Riviera Maya inst as of Puebla/Cuernavaca plenty to see over there as well. If you could get 6/5 days another option is to go to Guadalajara/Tequila/Vallarta . Mexico is huge and it's impossible to see it all in one trip :)

@rainbowhairdontcare...A revolutionary, that is the coolest thing ever!
Unfortunately can't tag on any extra time as I have to be back home with work...would love to go to Cancun etc...but another time!
Thanks for all the info.
