Hotels near Heraklion, Crete

I need to find a hotel for my elderly parents near Heraklion, in Crete. It must be within an hour of Heraklion, nowhere else. Has anyone stayed in a lovely hotel on the beach near there? I don't know the resorts to search for. Thank you

We've only been once and stayed in Rethymnon which, if I remember correctly, is just about an hour's drive away. Our hotel was the Aquila Rithymna Beach which I would definitely recommend if it doesn't work out too far away.

We stayed at Stella palace, about 20 mins from the airport, it's a beautiful resort, plus my dad has mobility issues and they used to send the golf cart to pick him up from his room and take him to the restaurants or other areas of the hotel.
There is also Stella village attached, this is cheaper but you can't use the restaurants in palace and is generally a bit downmarket, they have also just built Stella island next door which is an adults only resort, absolutely stunning.

Stayed at Knossos Beach Bungalows earlier in the year. Fabulous hotel on the beach about 20 mins from Heraklion.
Some parts may not be very accessible if they have any mobility issues. Can they use steps ok?

They can't use steps much. Thanks for these names. I will look them up
