Has anyone left Singapore airport inbetween connecting flights?

When we fly back from NZ, we have 8 hours between our flights... I was told you are allowed to leave the airport? Anyone done this, is it easy to do? I have looked online but not getting much of an answer. You can do organised trips during the day, but when we land its 4.30pm and they have stopped by then.

We flew via Singapore on the way to and from NZ, had a 5 hour stop. We didn't leave the airport, but we did get lounge passes, so we could have a nice shower, snooze on the lounge sofas and drink lots of water and relax for a bit.

I think both ways I was too knackered to have gone out and done anything. We had 4 hour lounge passes and it was much nicer than sitting around the airport.

Not sure if this is any help but on Kara & Nate's YouTube channel they have done a Vlog about this and how you do it.

It looks spectacular.

I went on a trip to the night zoo when I had a stop over in Singapore. Will it be evening in NZ time when you arrive? It might be better to get a hotel room in the airport so that you get a proper sleep and a nice shower before the next flight.

Its on our way home from NZ, and we def wanna leave the airport, tired or not LOL. Would like to the kids to see a bit of Singapore at least and we can have a nice meal and stretch our legs.
I'll watch that youtube video, thanks @Stationeryqueen

I'd rather stay awake and hopefully get a good sleep on the next flight.

When I did it we went through custo s and paid for a day visa on the spot. It was pretty quick but our flight arrived late at night where there wasn’t too much traffic coming through.

There was a thread yesterday on what to do on a short stopover in singapore.

Teddybear45 · 23/08/2019 14:26

Could you not just request a couple of days stop over there? Singapore is a pretty good place to end a holiday

youngestisapsycho · 23/08/2019 14:41

Would love to stay longer but all flights are booked and I have to be back at work 2 days after landing back in UK! We will go back to NZ many times so will def have a longer stop there next time. Never have had 8.5hrs between flights tho, usually only about 3, so thought we would try something different rather than hanging around in the airport... although theres is so much to do in there too. Def wanna go see Marina Bay!

Are the city airport tours definitely finished by then? We did one last year (I think we had five hours transit) and it was definitely dark when we got to the Bay as we saw fireworks, tbh I am a bit of a neurotic traveller so would only have done it with an organised tour. Obviously when you come back through the airport you have to go through security again.

I love Singapore. We had been before and were actually stopping for five nights on the way home to Aus but I still thought the tour was a great way to kill time and if that was going to be the only change you got to see the city it was worth it.

Not done the whole leaving airport on a stopover - never had long enough; this is longest - currently 4.5 hours in Dubai waiting to come home from Japan.

However - we found the taxis reasonably priced in Singapore earlier this year so you could get in and out if the city that way to save time in public transport, etc. Only about 20 minutes to Marina Bay. Cheaper by bus or train but takes at least double the time.

sashh · 25/08/2019 05:06

I did it about 25 years ago, there were organised tours that I wasn't at the right time for but there was also a free bus into Orchard Rd.

Don't underestimate things that can be done at Changi airport, swimming, eating, butterfly garden, more eating, shopping.

caranx · 25/08/2019 05:50

If you don't want to leave transit the Aerotol hotel has an outdoor pool airside that you can buy day tickets for (don't need a hotel room).

There's the new Jewel centre right by the airport which has loads to do if you don't want to go into town but want a singapore experience.

Or just get a taxi into town, its not expensive.

Hopefulyl you've check your luggage through, but if not theres an early bag drop in the international terminal for all airlines.

I did this just last weekend. Spoke to someone in the airport and they advised clearing immigration (just as you would if you were going to stay in Singapore and not transiting). You need to complete a landing card, available at immigration, and instead of a Singapore address just write transit. They take your thumb prints, stamp your passport and off you go. I got a day travel pass at the Changi MRT terminal (follow signs for train to city) and I went straight down to Marina Bay. Arriving back at the airport, I assume you’ll have your onward boarding pass so you can go straight through to the transit area. Note that security at Changi is done at the departure gates rather than on arrival at the transit area, although they check your documents going into the transit area.

Flying back from NZ myself this week but sadly not enough time for sightseeing for me this time so transit hotel pool it is!

I have checked the tours.... last of the day is 4pm, we land at 4.30. I know there is loads to do in the airport, I spent 10 hours in there once! The kids are 13 and 17 so will def leave the airport and head to Marina Bay.... our friends are in Singapore the night before, so we will just miss them too ☹️ Will go see the jewel too.

You may have already travelled but in case not - I had a 5 hour stop on the way back from NZ last week. My DD and I cleared immigration and had a fun time at Jewel. Our bags were checked all the way through and we left our carry on bags in the Qantas lounge. There is left luggage at Jewel if you didn't want to lug around your carry on.

youngestisapsycho · 03/09/2019 16:07

Thanks. We’ll be coming through on 2nd Jan.

We catch the train into Singapore from Changi. Cost 2 dollars each way. Think they run every 10 minutes and take 20 minutes to get into "town". The MRT costs pence between stops.

Clearing immigrarion can sometimes take a while to clear.

If you don't make it out 9f the airport there is loads to see and do there especially with the newly opened Jewel.
