Where to go on holiday?

I'm booking a holiday with my mum in 2020. We're not restricted by term dates but I have no idea where to look.

Ideally somewhere we won't need a visa and preferably somewhere pretty with nice beaches. Mum has only ever been to Benidorm and while I'd be fine going back I would rather go somewhere like Menorca or Greece. And I've only been to Menorca, Benidorm and Paris.

Any ideas to where we could go that has decent places to go for food (a mix of local, multicultural and english as she is ridiculously picky) and nice beaches and pools.

Tunisia has some glorious beaches. If you choose a hotel with full board, you'll get a big buffet to choose from.

Kefalonia is beautiful. Ibiza fabulous
It depends on what you enjoy doing - day trips/beaches/shopping
What age is your mum?

ImposterSyndrome101 · 13/08/2019 14:44

@JoJoSM2, my sisters been there and mum doesn't like the sound of it. My sister mentioned that street vendors and shop workers are pushy and my mum says she would panic.

My mums 67 will be 68 when we go. She wants a nice beach she can walk along preferably some shops and full board or all inclusive in a family hotel.

Oh please go to Majorca. The food is utterly amazing if you pick the right places and I think that's raised the standard generally. The north is best I think but I have never been to Palma (the capital) and if you like a city I imagine it's fantastic.

@SummerHouse, I don't think she'd go to a city. She doesn't like the hustle and bustle of them but it's a good one to check out.

This would be my suggestion:

www.iberostar.com/en/hotels/malaga/iberostar-malaga-playa/

Plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance and lots of options if you wanted a couple of day trips a it further out.

Sounds fab I'll check it out

www.abc-mallorca.com/alcudia/

I would go to Alcudia or Port de Alcudia. Quaint and safe bet and I don't think your mum would feel out of her comfort zone.

I think this is lovely by the way that you are going and that you are really thinking about it. I hope you have a wonderful time wherever you pick.

Greece or mallorca are good bets.

@SummerHouse, she's had a difficult year and needs a break. Unfortunately she has no one that can go with her other than me or potentially one of my siblings but she has younger children and that wouldn't help her at all. I tried taking her on a city break at easter and she hated it. Too big and busy and not relaxing at all. Part of the making of a holiday is the company and if nothing else we'll have a few laughs.

What time of year are you thinking?

ImposterSyndrome101 · 16/08/2019 01:14

Anytime from the beginning of May to the end of September.

My mum and her sister have been several times to a hotel in Italy that’s about an hour from Venice on the train.

They go as part of a bridge group for mum but my aunt does her own thing, goes on some of the days out (to Venice and there’s another famous place about 10-15 minutes away) and joins in for the food, which is apparently amazing, fresh and plentiful. I think there’s also a spa in the hotel.

The town is flat to wander around - pleasant rather than amazing - but the staff at the hotel are very kind, the food is so good and it’s all just so nice that they keep saying that next year they will try somewhere else - and then they end up going to the same place.

I’ll try to find the details tomorrow.
