New York and Boston

Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to arrange a trip flying to New York, staying maybe 5 days and then going up to Boston for 4 days or so in September? We live in the Midlands but it seems it will be best to fly from and to London. Which airline is best for prices and a two centre trip? Is it best to book a package? Use a travel agent? I thought it would be easy to book online but it isn't!

Delta/Virgin hub at both so you can fly into one, fly between the two and back from the other on the same ticket. Delta or Virgin on the long-haul, Delta or subsidiary on the connection.

There are trains Bayern the two cities and no doubt someone will recommend that you do that but train travel here is awful. Dirty, delayed, old. Just awful. Significant investment is needed before it gets to anywhere near the standard of European train travel (I’m talking about France’s TGV network or the ICE network - not Thameslink). Delta is my favorite long-haul cattier here at the moment. We are flying Delta on our next trip to Europe.

I was hoping to travel by train between the two but I'm put off now; is going by bus/coach out of the question?

Have done the rail journey, convenient from central manhattan, 3 or 4 hours, comfortable but v busy weekday middle of day train (couldn’t sit together), expensive, not very scenic. Probably more convenient than air travel.

I disagree with the PP, the train we got was slower but nicer than UK trains.

We got the train last month between New York and Boston (amongst other trains going from East coast to West coast). It was great. There are two different options, the North East Regional and the Acela which is faster and more plush but therefore more $. We took the North East Regional which took 4.5 hours and cost $49 each.

We went on a Saturday and easily found seats together. You could get Red Cap service, they will take your luggage on a trolley and you follow, often get to board before everyone else so get a better choice of seats - not sure how this works for trains which aren't originating at that station though. You don't pay for red caps but you must tip them.

As PP said, it's not terribly scenic (not like some of the other Amtrak routes) but it's nice enough.

Also, we got some great deals on hotels by booking as part of a package with British Airways (we also flew into and out of different cities).

Into and out do different cities in the states is fairly straight forward. Just look at sky scanner you can pick into and out airports.

We did this with Canada flew lhr-yyc then yvr-lhr price was pretty much the same as into and out of one point and saved us 1000 k of driving back to the start.
