Majorca in October?

Looking for holidays for next year. We all like Majorca but prices for the summer holidays are really steep. October half term in 2020 seems much more reasonable (I know that's ages away but we need quite a bit of saving time)! We're not too worried about the fact that it won't be as hot as in mid-summer, but will much be open in October half term, or is it one of those resorts where everything pretty much packs down for winter by then?

We went in october and it was all still open. It calms down a bit over winter but doesn’t shut down like some places.

Went to Create One year October half term and things were closing around us. People were being moved to our hotel so there hotels could close. You’d go to a restaurant one night the next night it was boarded up. We were the last British tourist out of the resort to get the last chartered flight back to the uk that year.

Okay thank you FuzzyDuck. That sounds fine. I appreciate some stuff will be shut up, but as long as there's a reasonable amount of cafe's / restaurants open, and most major attractions will still be open, that would be fine. Smile

Most tourist related places, restaurants etc are typically open 1st May - 31st October.

Canaries might be a better option for Oct half term as they are 365 resorts. Balearics might not be good weather or restaurants at the end of the season, if the prices are good there is probably a reason.

It will be cold or at least cool.

Branleuse · 14/08/2019 21:59

I think you might have more reliable weather in the may half term, but the sea will be warmer in october.

Ive been in october and its definitely off season, but a lot is still open and we had mostly good weather with a little rain

I've been going to Mallorca mid October for the last 15 years or so. Weather is usually warm (24/25 ish) cooler in the evening. Can still go to the beach and in the sea. Evenings cool but can still go out in shorts but need a jacket for later on. Some rainy days but never had a full week of rain. Would thoroughly recommend it.

I did October half term last year and it wasn't great. Won't do it again. The pools were too cold and the weather was very variable. It also had an end of season atmosphere.

Of course the week before we went I had been checking the weather forecast and it seemed okay. Dropped 3 or 4 degrees the week we were there.

Was a cheap holiday tho. Now I know why!

Branleuse · 14/08/2019 22:20

You might have better luck further sough, maybe southern spain region, andalucia/malaga. Or canary islands or malta?

ArtificialArctophile · 14/08/2019 23:02

@zonkin when were you there and what part of Mallorca? I was there around the 14th (cant remember exact date!) and the weather was lovely. We were in Camp de Mar in the SW of the island.

Landlubber2019 · 14/08/2019 23:06

I did cala dor last October, pools were too cold, weather poor, most restaurants closed whilst we were there, truly awful. Had been the year previously and it had been fab, so it is all reliant on good weather. Like @zonkin we wouldn't do it again

We went to Majorca in October, to a small town in the North, and it was lovely. Everything still open and climate great for me, ie mid-20s iirc. Unheated pool was a bit nippy but we still used it. Lovely countryside for walking in. You've probably seen the Holiday Weather sites - eg www.holiday-weather.com/majorca/averages/october/

spaniorita · 15/08/2019 18:08

We went end sept early Oct - it was definitely cooling down (but not cold) rained one of the days and was on the way to closing down at end of the season

KitKat1985 · 15/08/2019 21:54

Thank you for all the opinions. I was considering Majorca as we've been to Tenerife and Lanzarote quite a bit over the past 5 years, so was looking at some 'Non-Canaries' options. Saying that I was speaking today to a colleague who had just come back from Gran Canaria and loved it, so I might look into that too. x
