The Algarve for Christmas?

Looking at booking a week away right over Christmas for me, DH and two kids (12 and 19), and can get the Algarve pretty cheap.

The apartment we're looking at is just outside Albufeira (Olhos de Agua) but could book different accommodation if there's a particular location that would be better... Would be flying into Faro and just looking for decent accommodation and somewhere pleasant/relaxing. Know that the temperature won't be roasting but think we'll be happy with just warmer than here!

Anyone done it? Are there any pitfalls we should be aware of??

A family member went for Christmas about 3 years ago, they said that everything was close on Christmas day, beaches were empty most of the time, but they liked it being quiet.

Yes, most places will be closed on Christmas Day, you will have to find a big hotel. It’s usually around 18-20 degrees, last year was solid sun. Personally I don’t like Albufeira but that’s in high season and it’s a bit hen/stag do, assume it’s much quieter at Christmas.

thanks both Smile quiet is fine with us and not actually that bothered if we have to cook/assemble a meal ourselves on christmas day - definitely don't want "christmas dinner".

have gone for it! DS says he's looking forward to it but already wants to know what's going to be happening with santa!

You also need to be prepared for rain. We went to the algarve in April and it rained the majority of half the days we were there ... The locals commented on the fact it was Christmas holiday weather late.. They'd had a lovely Christmas New year period where as it normally rained.

We were regularly the only people on the beach when it stopped... That was bliss Grin
