Recently booked a holiday to California starting at San Fransisco ending in Vegas. I am excited but have started to worry about Earthquakes.
I know people that have done this trip and said its amazing.
Love to hear from others who have been to California and can help put my mind at rest.

We've done a similar trip and it is amazing. Last time I was on the West Coast of the US I made sure I had some essentials in my bag at all times. Eg copies of all documents, water, snacks, first aid kit, fully charged phone, torch. That made be feel a bit better about things. Also read up on how to stay safe in an earthquake. And then after that don't worry about it!!

I get this. I’ve been to California and was worried about earthquakes. Didn’t help that just before I went all the sea lions randomly left SF. DH travels to California fairly often (at least annually), also Japan, and I hate the idea that a big one could happen during the trip. But I can’t do anything about it either. California is amazing and worth a trip. Are you doing big sur? Just go and enjoy it. The high tectonic activity means that the landscape is very beautiful

Doesn’t stop us living our lives here. Just be prepared. All new builds in earthquake zones have to have detain design features designed to save lives, not buildings. A lot of older buildings have been retro-fitted too. The hotel room should have information on how to stay safe. We have regular earthquake drills at work and there are leaflets available everywhere telling you what you should do. Basically you just need to remember “duck, cover, hold”.

Big Sur is the mountainous coastal region south of SF, from Monterey down to San Simeon. It’s really beautiful but I guess if you’re going to Vegas you might not
