French roadtrip

Hello, looking for some advice as I’ve never been to France and don’t really know where to start!

Doing a road trip through France next week. We are starting at Dunkirk and have settled on Annecy and then down to St Tropez, all booked. We have to be back up towards Paris 2 days later, so need somewhere either central France or perhaps back up the eastern side to stay for the night.
Obviously, we want to take in as much of the scenery as we drive, so looking for the most beautiful places/routes.

Thank you!

How about going back up the A71 (not as busy as some of the other motorways) and taking some roads in the Parc Naturel de l' Auvergne?
