Mosquitoes

I'm a mosquito magnet and off to Thailand in a few weeks. As well as attracting the blighters I also react to the bites (main reason we don't go many holidays in the summer!).

Any tips on the most effective repellants? Do the bands work?

Use a product with DEET in it. Do not use the bands because they are not fully effective.

Avoid places with pools of standing water; these are very attractive to mosquitoes and enable them to breed.

I've used the Deet impregnated bands in Africa, they're very effective. I think they're called Mosi-off - 4 in a pack for wrists & ankles. The ordinary bands are useless.

Yes to product with DEET and I use Vick on the bites.

Nosilife shirts could be a good call. The material is anti mosi and we found the family members wearing the shirts got bitten less. Can often find deals on new ones on eBay

I am currently on holiday, I have 4 citronella bands on, the rest of my party have no protection. Guess who has been bit. Yes only me!

I don't reccomend them.

I often use incognito (non-deet based) and this usually good but you need to make sure you spray everywhere as they still manage to find the bits I missed. I also start taking vitamin B1 and anti-histamine two weeks before I go. My bites come up and this certainly helped.
Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to respond = and Sandgroper thanks for posting the article.

Useful hint about anti histamines Popsicle . I didn't know about the B1 supplements. I'll also take some Vick Shanghai Never heard of that before.

I'll report back!

The best stuff I have found is the Goibi Xtreme spray - you can get it on Amazon.

PenelopeFlintstone · 21/07/2019 12:55

Use OFF. It's not too smelly, very effective and they sell it in Thailand. They sell it in Australia too.

Last year in Thailand and Cambodia we took the bands and Moskito Guard moskitoguard.co.uk. Relying on the bands we got bitten, using Moskito Guard we didn't and it's DEET free. You can get it off Amazon.
