Largish group travelling to New York next year. Looking for recommendations for 1 or 2 bed suites in central New York. Special event so we want somewhere decent, but not too pricey. Any ideas gratefully received. Thank you.

TripAdvisor New York forum has some frequently asked questions - and this is one - they give lots of options there. They always say don't do apartment rentals in Manhattan as it's illegal.

NYC is going to be pricey anyway because its an all year round destination these days with people from all over the world choosing to visit.

Chain hotels like the Embassy Suites, Fairfield Inn and suites and Homewood Suites may well suit your requirements here. Have a look at those.

Do not look at apartment rentals because short term lets are illegal.

Radio City Apartments always used to be good value. I assume they still are.

Brilliant. Thank you - this is exactly what we needed and we shall definitely look at those names you have recommended.

We stayed at the Shelburne Hotel and Suites at Murray Hill a couple of years ago (Affinia Group has other hotels in other locations as well). Nothing fancy but big rooms plus kitchenette. We had a one bedroom suite with pull out sofa bed plus a rollaway with great views to the Empire State Building. It’s in a nice quiet location a short walk from Grand Central Station.

Another vote for Radio City apartments. It's in a really good central location and has a fabulous pizza place next door!

We have had luck with 2 room suites at holiday inns in various places, not New York but it's worth checking, same with Hilton but not sure about New York. Be aware suite in the us doesn't necessarily mean an extra room, it seemed to be a sofa, microwave and fridge when we last visited, and the fridge was noisy
