So, having had the crappest of crap 3 years ever. House being reposessed, dh losing business and job and PND from hell, inlaws decide we need a break, so have holiday booked for first time in 6 years to Menorca, leaving on Monday.

2 weeks ago rang passport office to get passports for kids, they book an appointment for last Monday at 7.45am.

DH goes armed with docs, only to be told eldest dd has to sign and will cost another £13 for 4 hour turnaround. BUT - others will come within 7 days. we tell them we are leaving the following monday at noon...all ok as far as agent says.

Guess what? 2 youngest still have no passport, and ds's passporthas not even been printed in Manchester yet!!!!!!

So, as emergeny precaustion we check one way flight for next day for ds and dh, only to be told that if they dont get on flight out - flight in will be cancelled, so also have to pay for additional return.

They cannot issue a 4 hour turnaround on Monday as new passport has already been authorised and is in transit!!!

oh god that is stressful

Does ANYONE know of a way around this? Or a way to get it sorted?

Are they delayed due to postal strike perhaps?

Holidays are more stress than they are worth IMO, but we still go along with the illusion of 'fun' every year in this house!

nope...the passports are not delivered by Royal Mail. They are delivered by private courier, that is located in Croydon, which i have to go through to get to Gatwick, but, I am not allowed for security reasons, to collect them.

Dont know what to suggest then. Have you asked your holiday insurance company if they cover you for having to cancel because of passport delay?
