Annoyed at flights coming DOWN in price after you’ve booked

I booked flights for £120 in economy, I wanted to go business but it was £240 so not worth it. I booked a month ago, and now economy is still £120 but business is £160... I got an email asking it I would like to upgrade for £140!

Why should I pay £100 more for something just because I booked a bit earlier?!

It's the risk you take isn't it? I think the best thing to do is buy at a price your happy with and then stop looking (obs it's hard to ignore an email). Otherwise, it gets frustrating when it gets cheaper (but to be honest most of the time it's more expensive).

That said, have you thought about calling the airline to see if you can get an upgrade reflecting the difference in what you paid and the cost of the flight now?

What airline?

When can you check in? I got offered an upgrade to business for about £40 on check in, but I decided not to bother as it was only a 1.5 hour flight and when I saw the 'business class' I was glad I didn't because all it bought was sitting at the front of the plane and possibly a slightly bigger seat and better food, but the rest of the plane was fine anyway, so not really worth it to me.

However, friends did business class on a slightly longer flight because it included a bigger luggage allowance that they used to take sporting equipment that they would have otherwise had to pay for so I think it might actually have been cheaper that way.

Airline pricing is a complete black art with lots of inconsistencies so it's probably not worth trying to tie yourself in knots over it.

Is there a cancellation fee? You could book the business class and cancel the economy.

It’s with BA. Unfortunately I would only get about £20 back if I cancelled so it’s not worth going down that route.

BA have just started a sale so that may be why the club seat has come down in price.
