Hi there, can someone tell me a little about Lagos? I was looking at Alvor but dh doesn't really do beaches so somewhere he can wander off and look at the sites would suit. Plus somewhere as a base for day/boat trips. I always thought Lagos was a big town and therefore not that pretty but I think I'm wrong!? Thk u.

Lagos is a really pretty town- lots of bars and restaurants and little side streets to explore with shops. There is a beautiful marina and several large beaches with a variety of water sports on offer. Also lots to explore in the surrounding area- some lovely walks along the cliff tops and boat trips ( dolphins, grotto trips that you can access via kayaks etc.) I would recommend a car if you want to go further a field. Cabo De Sao Vicente near Sagres on the corner of Europe is pretty spectacular( about 30 min drive from Lagos)

I am in that part of the world often as have a holiday home in the next village. It's really beautiful there and the Portuguese are lovely.

Lagos is a good family resort - we stayed at the Marina Suite Hotel a couple of times. DS learned to surf there too. Definitely recommend a car to get around.

My other recommendation is Sao Martinho do Porto on the Atlantic coast, about an hour north of Lisbon.

Lagos is not that big and I think it is a pretty town, lots of little streets. We really liked it there.
