Efteling

I loved this as a child and would love to go back. Anyone who has been, can you tell me:

  • is it near the Netherlands Center Parcs or similar, so we could make a proper break of it?
  • is there anyway to reach it via public transport? Driving overseas makes me a bit nervous tbh

Thanks!

If you don’t like driving, then I’d suggest staying at Efteling itself, rather than at a Center Parcs or equivalent nearby because I’ve never seen any transport on offer/shuttle buses etc... from any of the local holiday parks.
It’s relatively straightforward by public transport from the airport. Take the train to 's-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch). There are bus connections that go to Efteling from there (bus lines 300, 301, 136 and 800). Get off at the Efteling bus stop. You can also travel directly to Efteling from Amsterdam Bijlmer/Arena and Almere on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with the Flixbus (bus line 811).

It’s also possible to go by Eurostar. Instead of taking it to Amsterdam, I’d take it to Breda directly from Brussels. On weekdays, take the train from Breda to Tilburg. There are bus connections that go to Efteling from here (bus lines 300, 301, 136 and 801). During the weekends and holidays, the Efteling Express Breda (bus line 802) goes directly to Efteling from Breda without stopping.

We are going in August and staying on site in the bosrijk village. We are then moving onto centre parcs. The two Belgium ones and Dr kempervennen are all close.
Enjoy!

Thank you! If we were to drive (it's the driving on the wrong side of the road that bothers me!) is it best to fly/ferry/Eurostar? Travelling from the north west.

Travelling from the north west, I’d fly.

Depends on Budget v nervous driving
Roads are much much better in Europe than cramped chokka block old blighty.

Flights to Amsterdam can be Very Very cheap of course.

Definitely stay on site.

Safari park near by does pleasant lodges, accmd. Berken see I think.

Or about 1 hr 20 mins, is duinerrll.

Efteling is bloody amazing. It's a very special place and that charm remains.
