Solo trip

Can anyone recommend somewhere for a solo trip, I'm late 30s, married with young kids. Have been offered a few days away but would be alone. Where would you go? Don't have a huge budget, maybe European city. Must be somewhere I would feel safe, easy to get around & wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb! Any ideas?

Funchal. It's a buzzy city and easy to get out and about to see places further afield. It's about 4.5 hours flying time though. Or Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. Good food, beaches near at hand.

How about Nice and Monaco in the south of France - they're next to each other so you can see both, but Nice is a lot cheaper to stay than Monaco. Always nice weather, art galleries, beach, people watching etc

It's also easy to get the train to places like Cannes and St Tropez further along the coast if you have a spare day as well.

There's a handy airport in Nice that all the airlines fly in to which is then a 5 minute train ride into the centre of Nice.

I really enjoyed Copenhagen as a solo traveller. It’s a lovely city with lots to see. Very easy to get around on the metro and by foot (only 10 minutes on the metro from the airport to the city centre). Pretty much everyone speaks English so I didn’t find it too scary on my own. And you won’t feel at all conspicuous as a solo traveller.

Great suggestions, keep them coming!

Berlin ticks all your boxes, as does Vienna.

In June 2017 I had a few days on my own after a terrible break up 2 years prior and first time kid free as kids went to the aunts wedding and I ended up booking a last minute 4 night stay in Rome. The weather was gorgeous (hot) but I was alone. I paid €99 for the Roma Pass and had the best of time. I could eat where I wanted, go where I wanted. Return to hotel anytime and then went out at night again.
I’m returning to Rome at the weekend but with a friend who has never been. Oh i ended up booking through Expedia last time but this time I did it all on my own.
Have fun.

I have lots of trips solo (but mainly in the UK because I'm poor!). Usually go somewhere outdoorsy in Wales or Scotland.

I have been to the Alpes Maritimes alone though - that was fairly easy. Fly to Nice then train up to the mountains.

Also been to Barcelona alone.

I've never felt in the slightest bit conspicous or unsafe.

Rome/Pompeii - airb&b it. I highly recommend the Colosseum and Palatine gardens in Rome, that'll take a whole day to mooch around.

Thanks all. Have done Rome. Loved it but want to try somewhere new
