Italy - Puglia

We have booked a villa in Puglia for first week in August. It's our first visit to Italy so we're novices at this but looking forward to it; it seems that this region isn't massively touristy and none of us have any Italian so how do we spot a decent place to eat? Do the Italians mind walk up's much? This seemed to be a problem in Portugal away from the main tourist centres on our last two visits there. We're arriving Saturday afternoon so what chances us getting a table for dinner?

We're off to Puglia in August too!

We went to Sirolo last year and really struggled to get a table for dinner that first night as everywhere was rammed so wandered around with starving kids till we eventually got into a pizzeria.

After that we scouted around what restaurants looked nice and busy and used Trip Advisor and booked for the other nights.

Sounds like we'll need to brush up on our Italian for asking for a reservation then! We're based just outside of Alberobello, so we might try there on the Saturday night, then venture further afield. Did you do Zoosafari? It is worth a visit ?

Sorry. My message was worded badly.
Sirolo further up in Italy but same will apply. All of Italy on holiday in August!
I've not been to Puglia before though and really looking forward to it!

I've not been to Puglia but we're frequent visitors to Italy and go most years.Never had any issues getting tables at restaurants & my Italian is virtually non existent.

Alberobello is a tourist hotspot so bear that in mind. It's also pretty small. There will definitely be more tourists than locals in August. Restaurants ask for booking if there are large parties, but otherwise you queue at the door. On a Saturday you'll find locals are more up for a pizza than a "restaurant dinner" kind of place.
Puglia is getting more to grips with foreign tourism and especially somewhere like Alberobello, you'll have no problem.
Polignano on the coast is nice for places to eat.

Thanks, our villa has an outside pizza oven so we're going to have a crack at making pizza live in Italy one night! (It's probably going to be a disaster, but hopefully a bottle of local vino will make it all seem much better). I'm probably just over thinking this so I just need to chill and see what happens.
Is the zoo at Fasano worth a trip do you know?
