somewhere with plenty to do without being really busy. hot enough to swim outside. not bothered about kids clubs.

hmmm, might be tricky to book anywhere now. Christmas and New Year get really booked up early so flights might be in short supply to some of the usual winter destinations.
Not sure if £2,000 will be enough either for four of you. Sorry I know I am being negative. The Canaries might be your best bet for price and sun. Egypt is popular in Winter too but it does get dark quite early, around 4-4.30pm. Otherwise, maybe Tunisia? Gambia? Kenya? Dubai? Caribbean (Cuba and the Dominican Republic or Mexico probably cheapest). Anyone else got any better suggestions. Hope you get something booked aunty. We were away Christmas last year and had a fantastic time. Your best bet is just to go and see a decent Travel Agent and see what's available at that time. Don't forget to go to this review site before you actually book though!

We have been away for the past 4 new years. Agree with hedgehog - The nearest place that will be warm is the Canaries and probably best value too. Although personally I wouldn't say warm enough to swim - I am a wimp! Egypt has great sightseeing but we found people hassled us a lot and the food was pretty awful. Dubai has fab hotels but not much else for a family IMO. Florida may be a good bet and cheap when you get there. Much more to it than just Disney.
