Melbourne in Florida

Hi, wondered if anyone had stayed in Melbourne in Florida? We are looking to visit the Space Center and spend one day at Universal.

Melbourne looked quite historic and thought it would be a good base. Has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

The "historic" bit of Melbourne is really small and not very inspiring but for a night would be fine. The rest of Melbourne is soulless strip malls.

Oh that's a bit disappointing. Have you stayed anywhere a bit more appealing? Everywhere looks so generic!

You would be about 35 miles away from KFC if you were to stay in Melbourne and a lot further away from Universal.

You may want to actually stay in Orlando anyway particularly if Universal is a must see and it is certainly possible to drive to KFC from Orlando.

The space centre is amazing but I'd just do it as a day trip from Orlando. The beaches on the west coast are worth it. The nicer historical parts of Florida are in the north I'm my opinion.

Also looked at cocoa beach which seems s good location. We don't fancy staying near the parks as we will only be going there one day. Has anyone stayed st or near cocoa beach?

Thanks
