We're going for 2 weeks on saturday (yippee!) and are staying about half an hour away from St Malo.

TIA

beaches

there is an excellent aquarium in Brest

a maize maze near st malo

We found St Malo very nice. We wandered around the town and on the walls. There are also lots of nice sandy coves and inlets around there. We did the St Malo aquarium on a wet day. Although maybe he is a bit young to appreciate it, we had 5 and 2 yos and actually spent a lot of time on the beach. Mont St Michel is driveable and DS (the 5yo) was quite into that.

Lots of boats/marina/harbour stuff in St Malo might interest a 2yo.

PanicPants · 22/07/2007 21:32

Some good ideas thank you.

Dinan is a lovely town to wander around, Dinard old-fashioned beach resort with nice flat sandy beach. A couple of castles nearby - Fougeres and Combourg

The coast to the north west of St Malo is fantastic for children - quite quiet, sandy. If the weather is decent your DC will be happy playing there all day.

PanicPants · 23/07/2007 17:11

It's all sounding so fab! Can't wait until Saturday

Thankyou everyone.

You can get a boat across the bay from St Malo to Dinard (and back again)

PanicPants · 23/07/2007 17:38

Can you do both in a day?

are you going to domaine des ormes?

Aquarium at St malo (and beaches)

beach just north of cancale (signposted Port Mer) with nice playpark set up on the beach, ice cream places etc

there are a couple of donkey places near Dol (leaflet translated as 'see their long ears of wisdom') - we never had time to visit but we thought it would make a nice visit for kids

there is also a big goat place, a farm park, can't remember its name, damn, something about chevre though

just pick up lots of leaflets when you get there

Cammelia · 23/07/2007 17:51

Yes

PanicPants · 23/07/2007 19:16

Thankyou!

I've never been before and the guide books I've got are all a bit dry - lots of cathedrals etc and the history of the towns but not so many places to visit especially with children.

Dare I ask, but Dp and I are not very good french speakers, and although I've got a book, I'm wondering how we'll cope. Do you think we'll be alright?

pointydog · 23/07/2007 19:53

PanicPants · 23/07/2007 20:08

Well as long as they don't mind us speaking from the phrase book then it'll be alright. Didn't do a language at school, as I chose 2 sciences instead.
