October half term suggestions please

I've got October half term off work - 1 week, can leave on Friday pm and can return on the Sunday. Any suggestions for a holiday please?

We are 2 adults, a 9 year old who thinks she's a teenager and a 4 year old who will have just started school, so my be tired and grumpy and she isn't keen on walking far.

Holidays we've enjoyed include Center Parcs (UK and Europe), UK cottages - we've had summer holidays in one with a pool, Canaries when it's warm enough to swim. We have also been to Bruges and Munich.

We are near enough Stansted, Luton and St Pancras (for Eurostar). We could also reach Heathrow, but I'm not keen to fly too far as I don't want to deal with much jetlag for a week's holiday.

Thanks

What about Maderia? it gets temperatures of around 17*c in october. something like this might suit? it has a curtsy bus to and from the town centre, so there will be stuff to do.

I think 17 would be a bit cold for us there. My DDs love swimming and would find it frustrating if there were pools but it was too cold to use them.

Maybe try Paphos in Cyprus then? it has an average day temperature of 27*c. maybe something like this?

or you could have a look at something like this in ireland. its a resort, and has activities as well as an indoor pool onsite.

I hadn't realised that Paphos would still be that warm, I will certainly have a look.

I think I'd rather go to Kerry in the summer, I have fond memories of a summer holiday in Kerry as a child.

I think for short flight and guaranteed warmth it would have to be the Canaries or possibly North Africa. You don't say which Canary Islands you have seen.
Tenerife was far better than I thought. We had boat trips, a submarine trip and a cable car up the volcano. And weather in October was perfect.

sorry OP, i keep posting, but you could also look at renting an air b n b in antibes, france? it will be 21*c ish during the day x

Would the budget stretch to Oman? Minimal jet lag, really, although it is an overnight flight. And beautifully warm at that time of year. And beautiful, generally. We had a great time two years ago. Also successful at that time of year have been Venice (was v warm but that was lucky) and Crete (a little more reliable but again could be less pleasant if the weather is against you).

I wonder if we could get to Antibes by train.

I don't mind going on a cooler holiday if we aren't surrounded by swimming pools - but going somewhere with pools that are too cold to use would be torture for my 4 year old.

I had ruled out the Middle East due to the human rights record (particularly the treatment of migrant workers) - any idea if Oman is different?

Many hotels in the Canaries have heated pools. That's why we like it. I wish it was easier to find heated pools in other parts or Europe so that you can swim in warm but not boiling hot weather. It has to be so hot to enjoy an unheated pool.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 29/05/2019 11:47

you can get to antibes by eurostar, but it will be quicker to fly x

Canary Islands are usually warm that time of warm.

We did Portugal last year half term in October. Weather was 20/21 every day so nice to lounge around the pool. We also chose a hotel with a heated indoor pool too and that was 29 degrees. It was at the Four Seasons resort in Vilamoura and was excellent value.
