4 nights in July, just me and DH. like old buildings, interesting tourist things. Not great walkers so no hikes in the countryside type stuff.Limited budget. Will be staying Air BnB near the centre

Go through town down to the boats on river Danube. The buildings and bridges lit up at night, and the view of parliament is absolutely stunning.
My dad got married in Budapest on a boat and I honestly have never seen such beautiful scenery.

A Budapest card was good value - hop on and off bus with river cruise.
Parliament was best I’ve ever been in.
Central Synagogue followed by a riverside walk to see the shoes was moving.
A meal at the restaurant on the Fish Bastion was memorable. The climb to the top of St Matthias was hard but worthwhile.
Swimming in both Szycheny baths and the more clinical Gellart baths for comparison and a feel of a past Hungary.
The furnicular to the castle and gallery saved a climb.
Hugo’s beside the river as the sun set were very pleasant.

If you like museums the Terror Museum is a must see. It's housed in the building that was Nazi HQ and then Soviet HQ and tells the history of the impact they both had on the city. It's very moving and very well laid out.

Was a similar thread the other day on another board

If you don't like walking the City owned/run Mol Bubi bikes work out cheap if you are just hopping from one place to the next. Think we paid £8 for using 2 bikes over 3 days in total. Stations are every 500m throughout the city and at all the major tourist places

Museum of terror was really moving and well worth it

stucknoue · 29/05/2019 11:51

There's a cable car, the ballet was fun (about 10% of the price in the U.K.) the big spa. We did the art gallery too. Look on discount sites in advance we got bogof for the spa

dementedma · 29/05/2019 19:37

thanks. we will do the Terror Museum. We have done a lot of that kind of history and find it interesting and very moving.War museum in Gdansk was very good - and very awful! I fancy the spa but dh would hate it

Szechenyi spa and Gellert spa are amazing.

CheeseFace · 01/06/2019 09:50

The baths are a must do - I preferred Gellert. Museum-wise, the Hospital in the Rock is fascinating.
