Would like to go somewhere cheap(ish) 2020. Would like to go outside of Europe.
Any recommendations?

Croatia - technically Europe but not in the EU. Thailand is cheap once you've paid for flights and accommodation

Stringervest · 26/05/2019 18:48

I loved Croatia but I didn't find it cheap.

When you say cheap, can you give us an approx £ per head to include flights and accomadation?! That way you are likely to get some helpful suggestions

Jaffacakeman · 26/05/2019 22:12

Flights only as I feel I can airbnb or find cheap accommodations.
I wouldnt be against a package deal.

My budget would be around 400pp

So up to £400 per head for flights?.Are you restricted to school holidays & is there a particular time of year you want to go?

Jaffacakeman · 26/05/2019 22:59

No restriction. 2 adults, late 20s.
I don't mind what time of the year we go as long as it's the rainy season.

I'm guessing you meant not rainy season (unless you have a thing for being wet!)?! As above, Thailand is a good option - if you don't mind changing planes you can find flights to Bangkok for less than £300 each (Shenzhen Airlines) but a better option would be with an Airline like Gulf Air who have flights to Thailand for just under £400 or Etihad at just over £400. Lonely Planet have a free online guide to Thailand which could help with inspiration. I liked Goa, you'll find flights for around the £400 mark, accommodation won't bankrupt you, the foods great & the beaches pretty. It's been a while since I went with a friend but it felt safe & we did go out a lot.Don't go in our summer! Gambia in Africa is meant to be safe & pretty interesting (I've not been)- just had a quick look & On The Beach have packages there for less than a grand a week. Morocco while not long haul is out of Europe & you'll easily find flights for less than £400. I liked Marrakech (although my DH didnt!) & you can easily find a gorgeous Riad in the old town for not very much. Marrakech is a bit mad so I'd combine it with tours out of the city). We went in May & the weather was great.
Of the top of my head, these seem the best options in your flight price range but I'm sure other people could come up with others!

Malaysia. Can get return tickets for about 350 to KL, and then internal flights to Tioman/Langkawi are cheap if you want beaches/islands, stay in KL, or head to Cameron Highlands, Penang.

Absolutely loads to do. Cheap to get to and cheap once you are there for the most part.

Sounds a good option! Forgot to mention Norwegian Airlines are now flying to Buenos Aires - if you click their lowfare calendar, you can pick up returns for £400. This is on our travel plans for 2020 with an AirBnB in Buenos Aires then onto Iguazu by cheap internal flight

Jaffacakeman · 27/05/2019 21:01

What time of the year would you go to Thailand?

Thailand or Vietnam is my preference

Dec-March for Thailand. PIL used to live there and we’d aim to visit then because of the weather.
