First holiday as a family

We're looking to go on holiday in September, our LO will be 18 months and we're looking for somewhere short haul.

If anyone has any experience of a great child friendly hotel or a hotel in an area with lots to do within walking distance I would be so very grateful for the suggestions?
Last 5/6 holidays have been to his parents family home but with multiple large stone steps it's just not safe for an 18 month old.

what about the connacht hotel in ireland? its a 20 minute walk from galway town center. they also have family rooms, an indoor pool and gym. all the best x
