Does my holiday exist?

We want a sandy beach, authentic village, decent food options, not brits-abroady, nice accommodation with charm and character, decent sized pool and things to do without being tacky. So probably not a package... And not ridiculously expensive...

Everything seems mediocre at best unless £££

Going round in circles. We’ve done eurocamp type holidays for the last few years and loved the outdoor and mixed-nationality atmosphere but we are totally over the cramped mobile homes.

2 adults 2 Dc 7 and 5.

Pleeeeeeeeease hit me with some accommodation recommendations anywhere in Europe that fits our bill. Im beginning to think I have totally unrealistic expectations.

If we could do it for £4K for 2 weeks that would be awesome. Not convinced it’s possible without staying somewheee that looks either a) from the Soviet Union or b) like my Nan’s house.

Sardinia fits this bill, it's beautiful. Not absolutely tonnes to do but we hired a car for a couple of days and got the boat to another island and drove round. Wondered around a village. We stayed in a villa within a hotel the first time and then an all inclusive type hotel the second time. It had multiple pools, kids club, beach, play area and really good evening entertainment.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 25/05/2019 19:25

Croatia?

cleomummy · 25/05/2019 19:25

Both times booked with just Sardinia. Beautiful little villages we passed through from airport to hotel.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/05/2019 19:26

I was going to say Croatia as well.

Or Malta maybe?

cleomummy · 25/05/2019 19:26

Aren't the beaches all rocky in Croatia?

Passthecherrycoke · 25/05/2019 19:27

You need a Greek island! Fits the bill perfectly. Crete, zante, Rhodes.

VanillaCoconutDove · 25/05/2019 19:30

Barcelona?

Oliack1417 · 25/05/2019 19:33

I came to say Croatia too..

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 25/05/2019 19:35

Sivota in northern Greece is beautiful too-last yr we saw 0 British people-mainly Italian

dreichuplands · 25/05/2019 19:36

We really liked Croatia but our beach was stony, so no good for sandcastles.
We stayed in a pine forest near La Rochelle once that was very nice. But in was Eurocamp not a hotel or villa.

stucknoue · 25/05/2019 19:37

Sicily? We paid £420 for a week b&b per room and £130 pp for flights. Eating out was circa €10 for lunch and €25 for dinner including alcohol. Pool was deserted, most people staying were on tours it seems, the town had a great feel, the beach (short bus away) was amazing and didn't meet any other Brits

Pinkarsedfly · 25/05/2019 19:39

Ile de Ré?

Lovely for kids because you can bike everywhere. Easy to use the island-hopper bus to visit all the different towns on the island, or La Rochelle if you want a larger town.

dreichuplands · 25/05/2019 20:01

We visited there and it was lovely. The whole area is.

Cyberworrier · 25/05/2019 20:05

It’s a big village/small town but Panormo in Crete might suit your needs.

Rainatnight · 25/05/2019 20:07

Love Ile de Ré - have only ever stayed on campsites so don’t really have any accommodation recommendations for you. Though some of the chalets in ours (Sunelia) were massive.

Allthebees · 26/05/2019 12:46

Thanks all...

Any specific accommodation recommendations?

bitchfromhell · 26/05/2019 12:56

Fiskardo in Kefalonia? I'd look for an apartment/villa or possibly at the Emelisse Hotel.

EveryDayIsLikeMonday · 26/05/2019 13:21

Another vote for Greece. How about the Peloponnese?

Allthebees · 26/05/2019 14:59

Can anyone give me specific accommodation recommendations?

OP posts:
Allthebees · 26/05/2019 15:03

Emelisse is fully booked!

Portugal. Lagos.

bitchfromhell · 26/05/2019 15:12

Kalkan? You've got to drive for a sandy beach but the beach clubs with bathing platforms are lovely if your children are good swimmers. The kulube hotel is nice and really cheap but you need to book a good room, also crap if you've any need for a pushchair or the kids don't like walking.

Walkingmum101 · 26/05/2019 15:24

Last September we went to callela de palafrugell in Costa brava , lovely seaside village/town...we got an apartment via one of the local estate agents...
Inmo Cala marquesa...sorry can’t do links yet!
They have lots of choice....have a look at the tripadvisor forum for it...several lovely cove beaches with coarse sand...walk along coast to Llafranc under pine trees...lovely promenading in the evenings with all the kids running or scootering along...somewhere I’d definitely go back to!

ThisIsAQuestion · 26/05/2019 15:41

We went to Callela de Palafrugell a few years ago and also loved it. The only thing I would say though is the beaches were incredibly crowded as they are only small coves. I've never been so close to other people on a beach - we were packed in like sardines! We were there in August. We'd love to go back but would avoid school holidays next time.
