Venice and hotels

Going to Venice in NOvember for long weekend with DH my lovely parents having DD, all the hotels look fab any reccomendations.

What are your likes / dislikes in a hotel ( large and posh , small and friendly, Venetian , modern, little cosy bb, on beaten track or off and any other particulars ? Can help no problems as know a few quite well.

I would die to stay in the Cipriani. (Sp?) Please someone tell me it's over priced and rubbish, as I'll probably never go.

We stayed in Cipriani for my mothers 50th and it was georgeous but out of price range, I think we would like small friendly and venetian rather than modern and large and somewhere fairly central, if you know venice any tips on where to eat, drink etc?

We stayed on the lido a few years ago. lovely.
Only thing is you gotta take the boat bus from there to main part.
Didn't stay very long into the evening because we weren't sure what time they stopped running.
Next time we go we'll do more research and visit more places.
Did love it though.

We went 5 years ago and can highly reccommend "Pensione Accademia" we had a lovely time and would go again. good luck.

P.s Imawurzel boats run every 20 mins going to every 30 later and then 40.

what time do they actually stop then?
DH loves the pizzas there, says it's 'gods butter'.

They run through the night but rather thin on the ground between 2 and 5 am . There are more services in the summer months. Agree the pizza is a bit better than Pizza hut. DH fell on the floor when they asked him if he wanted a thick or thin crust, extra mozzarella and if the herbs were ok ..He is Italian btw
