Hi

Has anyone been to Palma? It looks gorgeous on all the pics I've seen. Would you recommend for a few days away in June as a couple?

TIA

It's a lovely place for a short break. Plenty to see and do, but easy to walk around. The beach is within walking distance too.

Lordoftheringading · 14/05/2019 10:56

Definitely. It's a fabulous city to explore as a couple. I went with my boyfriend last year.
If you have sea legs then beg, steal and borrow to afford a boat trip out around the harbour.
We went out with Palma boats - you organise it ahead of your trip on email, look on trip advisor. It was just the two of us so very expensive but an incredible experience.

Following this thread, haven't booked our summer break yet and leaning toward Palma... 1 teen and 1 preteen in tow.

Palma is lovely.

It gets very hot and crowded in high season, but June may still be ok. It has masses of lovely restaurants and bars, interesting shops and old streets to wander around, some lovely hotels, and a good beach. DH and I love it.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 14/05/2019 12:34

I found it a lovely relaxing place for a short city break.

SantanaBinLorry · 14/05/2019 12:34

Palma is a great city (I live on the island).
Perfect for a couple, loads to see just wandering around. Great food, lots of bars with live music - just remember... EVERYTHING starts late. So, places may seem quiet and empty at 8pm... but will start to fill up/get busy around 10-11pm.

Oh, and theres a C&A - bonus!
Also great for teens/pre-teens. Check out Jump Mallorca & Wop for activities. And, a day trip to Magaluff isnt a bad idea for Wave House hotel on the front & House of Katmandu theme park. Just leave town before night fall ;)

Ah I'm so pleased with all this feedback! There are some really cheap flights from the East Midlands to Palma in June.
We've booked the flight but just weighing up where to stay at the mo. Feeling excited now!

Could you tell me about the transport from Palma to the airport and vice versa please? Is it easy on a bus or would taxi be better? @SantanaBinLorry

OP posts:
SantanaBinLorry · 14/05/2019 14:01

The No. 1 bus runs every 15mins to the City centre 5euros per person.
A taxi will be about 15euros, and takes about the same amount of time - but can obviously take you staright to your hotel. Buses dont run all night, so all depends on what time you land.
Taxis are super regulated, so you wont get ripped off.

Hotel wise... make sure you double check on maps, some can be cheeky & say Palma... but are actually small resorts just on the outskirts. The port/marina will give you standard but nice hotels, maybe a veiw, but can be a bit of a walk to the centre/shops/bars. If you are after something a bit special & spanish-y look around the Old Town & Santa Catalina areas.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 14/05/2019 17:59

I can recommend a small hotel in the centre with some apartments called Canavall.
Great location and I booked a duplex apartment with a a rooftop terrace which was great.

squirrelnutkins1 · 14/05/2019 18:57

Thanks for the great info! @SantanaBinLorry I love the look of old town Palma. Is that far from the centre of Palma?

Highly recommend Palma aquarium.

AgentProvocateur · 14/05/2019 19:07

Palma is my favourite city break. If you want a really nice hotel and your budget’s not too tight, take a look at Convent de la misseo in the old town. It’s got an amazing Michelin started restaurant that does an amazing value lunch.

GardenWoes231 · 14/05/2019 19:11

@squirrelnutkins1 thank you for starting this thread! I also spotted cheap East Midlands flights, I’m going for just under a week in September.
Staying at Hotel Cort in the centre Smile

givememarmite · 14/05/2019 20:40

I love Palma for a city break. And second AgentProvocateur suggestion for accommodation and lunch at the Marc Fosh restaurant, the food is fantastic and great value for a Michelin star.
Have a great time!

SantanaBinLorry · 15/05/2019 00:16

The Old Town IS the centre Grin Everything on your door step.

SantanaBinLorry · 15/05/2019 00:20

Hotel Born is really nice.
Food at Fosh is delish. The lunch menu is super cheap 30 €ish per person. Best to book in advance, but we've never had trouble getting a table for lunch.

RainbowMum11 · 15/05/2019 00:31

Yes def - went on my own for a few days last year. It's a great city.

RainbowMum11 · 15/05/2019 00:32

Bus from the airport is dead easy to the city too.
