Hello! I’m going to Bilbao and San Sebastián with my children for 5 days during May half term. Any recommendations for must see’s or must do’s (Guggenheim aside) greatly appreciated. My boys are 13 & 10. Many thanks.

Take the cable car to the top of the hill behind the city for an amazing view ad walk back down

There's a nice aquarium with sharks in San Sebastián the kids might like, plus lovely beaches! I think you can climb to the top of this big hill which has great views (can't remember exactly!)

San Sebastián is lovely. There is an old fashioned fair ground at the top of one of the hills which is good fun and gives stunning views. You could take the fernicular or walk up. The aquarium is worth a visit. The beach and promenade are a big feature of the town. The old town has lots of tapas bars and is lively in the evening.

Visit the Atletico Bilbao football stadium, take a boat trip down the Nervion river, sample all the pintxos bars (gorgeous food), walk down the banks of the river, numerous parks with play areas, then go on the beach at SS? Best time in Bilbao and SS are for the Grande Semande in August, the very family friendly entire city festivals, loads to do, local cultural food competitions by the sides of the river, food stalls, musical and dance parades, cultural activities, nightly firework displays at 10pm every night (packed with families for this). free street train, puppet shows, street entertainers and open air bars every night with different music. On top of this various open air concerts totally free, we saw a rock opera on a huge stage by the Guggenhaim, flamenco and ballet dancers, rock bands, Basque dancers, swing bands and the most amazing 13 piece mariachi show including dancers at 11pm!, this included elderly couples dancing in the crowd, just fab, been twice and will definitely return, just book hotels and flights early
