Can somebody just remind me of the difference between E111 cards & travel insurance

Is all medical cover covered on E111?

Just wondering if I could wing the travel insurance as we have car cover too.

There was a niggling reason that I can't quite put my finger on as to why I need travel insurance too.

e111 (not that it's called that anymore) wouldn't get you brought back to the UK by air ambulance/with health care staff etc

I knew there was something crucial-thanks!!!

My sister lives in Spain, so when we or my ageing parents go to visit we just take E111 - because we say that if anything drastic happened my sis would take care of everything and the surviving one would bring the other home in an urn, or camp out at hers with nephews fetching and carrying whilst we recuperate

E111 also won't help if you lose your luggage / trip is cancelled / airline goes bust etc.

A lot of travel insurance requires you (in the v small print) to have an EHIC.

IMO - Get an EHIC and travel insurance...better to be safe
