Holidays in reception

Am I right in thinking your child has to attend school after they are 5?
So if I booked a holiday before that but once they were in reception it would be ok?
Holiday in October, 5th birthday in November.
Thanks

It would be an unauthorised absence but they can't fine you.

SmellMySmellbow · 09/05/2019 13:50

Yes they couldn't fine you. They will mark it as 'unauthorised absence' in a letter to you but that's just them box ticking. The main thing is it won't be reported and you won't get fined. The term after their 5th birthday then you potentially could.

Phew that's great. It sounds dull probably but he loves butlins just for tots breaks and it really is the last chance for him to go. That's great thankyou

If you fill in a holiday form and specifically write that you are requesting as dc is not statutory school age yet they may approve it as authorised.

Actually have another question. Should I tell school now or wait until September? He's at nursery there

I'd wait until September, for admin's sake.

Sux2buthen · 09/05/2019 14:01

Ok I will most likely do it that way. Thanks for the info Smile

Wait until September, but don't stress about it. You're going either way so it doesn't matter what they say. It doesn't really matter if you call on the day and say you're on holiday. Nothing they can do other than maybe fine you (and your child is too young anyway)

That's very true, I'm probably overly worrying lol. Seems we are definitely going so might as well be excited!
