I've not booked accommodation yet so any no go areas?

Thanks

The Old Town Square - lots of alfresco restaurants to try out. Usually street performers/musicians there as well. Also has a lot of the more popular tourist attractions/sights, such as the Astronomical Clock and Kinsky Palace. You can walk from there to Charles Bridge.

If you have time to travel outside of the city a visit to Kutna Hora (the Ossuary) is recommended.

You're bound to go to Wenceslas Square at some point. When you're there you MUST go to Vytopna Railway restaurant! Your drinks are brought to you onboard a miniature railway train which weaves on a network of railway lines around the restaurant and even across your table. We were fascinated by the tunnels, drawbridges, ponds etc...The food is mostly pasta and pizza, reasonably priced and a good view over the square.
Prague seems to love model railways. Kingdom of Railways is an expansive model railway with lots of buttons to press.
The Funicular Railway up Petrin Hill is good fun in itself. At the summit are landscaped gardens and several attractions including an observation tower and a hall of mirrors.
It's not in the centre, but the National Agricultural Museum has lots of fun interactive exhibits.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/05/2019 18:44

The cafe in the tower does delicious honey cake.

I loved the church that has baby Jesus and all his clothes.

cittigirl · 06/05/2019 08:24

Oh thank you both. I'm looking forward to it 😊. I just need to book somewhere. I was thinking the Ibis most probably as you know what you're getting, usually and it's very central.

Well I've booked our accommodation, a studio apartment, one of many with fab reviews about 10 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square 😊

It's a bit further out of the centre, but whenever I'm in Prague for work we stay at the Lindner Prague Castle. It's the other side of the river, but it's a 15 minute walk down a hill to get to the King Charles Bridge, or you could use the trams if you're confident at using public transport in another language.

Prague is such a beautiful city. I've never managed to go in places as it was just an overnight stop, so I couldn't tell you which attractions are worth it or not, but I was happy to just walk and walk, taking in the city and the buildings.

I always wanted to go to the Museum of Torture or get on the Ghosts of Prague/Catacombs tour, but never managed it. Depending on what you or your DD are into, they could be worth a look? Grin

Seriously though, I'm sure you'll have a great time, I can never recommend Prague to people enough, it's in my top 3 European Capitals to visit.

Thanks Frothy

Can’t belief I forgot about the Lego Museum.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 07/05/2019 05:24

U Fleku bar and restaurant, it dates back to the 1400s and they had a fantastic Oompah band.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 07/05/2019 05:32

I love Ů Fleku! Try Ů Medvídků as well. Seriously nice beer. It’s great just walking round the town but a boat cruise on the Vltava is great fun, as is the waxworks museum (not Madame Tussaud’s - the other one, with Czech and international celebrities). Also the Jewish Quarter and museums, which is also a good area to seek out garnet jewellery.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 07/05/2019 05:36

The Kafka Museum, and Frank Kafka’s grave at the new Jewish cemetery.

The Museum of Communism

Loved Prague.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 07/05/2019 06:15

Here’s a kinky to my friend’s blog: all about good places to eat and drink in Prague.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 07/05/2019 06:40

Sorry linky not kinky! Damn autocorrect!

ImTheRealHFella · 07/05/2019 06:51

WafWaf waffle/pancake house or The Farm (trendy hipster type cafe) if you're in Letna at the park.

Cathedral and palace is beautiful. Must see.

Hit the shops: Sephora, Botas66 trainers and C&A proved v amusing for reminiscing.

Charles Bridge but in the evening before nightfall, when all the traders are gone, it's quieter and you can appreciate it. That area gets crazy busy.

cittigirl · 07/05/2019 08:35

These are all great, thanks so much. I'm going to make a list Smile

Prague Beer Museum! its just a bar not an actually museum but they have over 50 beers on tap including some amazing fruity ones. We happily spent an afternoon (and evening here)

goose1964 · 20/05/2019 01:09

U fleku is a tourist trap, and the beer's not that special. St Nicholas Church in Mala Strana is well worth a look. It may sound odd but Prague zoo is very good. They have an enormous elephant enclosure and when we were there the silver back gorilla was actually posing for the camera.
The best museum by far is the Museum of Decorative Arts everything from tacky French clocks to communist fashion.
I also loved the Mucha museum and I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the obecni dum, it has a thirties style cafe and the behind the scenes tour is seriously interesting
