Hotel in Vegas?

Anyone been to Vegas?! DH has won some free business class return flights so as the flights are free we are going to splash out on the hotel! He fancies the Bellagio - I think it is where Oceans 11 was filmed? Any view on this hotel or any others?

ps we are not taking 14 month old DS!!!

Bellagio very nice as is the venetian

RubySlippers · 17/07/2007 12:09

Bellagio is fantastic
highly recommend it - great rooms and service
we went on our honeymoon and they upgraded us to a junior suite
don't think you would be sorry you booked it
the other hotel we looked at was The Wynn (which was built by the guy who owned the Bellagio) but that is quite far down the strip IIRC

Lovely thanks ladies! Any other tips or any must sees/do's...? Grand Canyon trip?

we didn;t make it to the Grand Canyon, but if you can do go
the Strip itself is amazing - it is worth visiting all the hotels/casinos as they are mad/amazing/tacky/mind boggling
the shopping mall attached to Ceaser's Palace has spiral escalators
also, if you like shows 'O' is the Cirque De Soleil show at The Bellagio
DH says it was brill (i slept through a lot of it as i was jetlagged - it was a very expensive nap)

binkleandflip · 17/07/2007 12:29

boat ride in the venetian (tack factor 10!), caesars palace mall, Treasure Island Pirate show - if you are an animal lover I would avoid Seigfried and Roys secret garden tho

MGM is great as there is an inside Lion enclosure and if they have young cubs you can get picture with them. Also they have a whole complex of different pools.

Also get a loyalty card if you are going to be gambling. We went for 10 days and with our MGM loyalty card we got 2x buffetts for 2, two tickets for a show, and loads of goodies to bring back, including two t'shirts and a large cuddly lion. Really worth doing if you intend to gamble, they clock up points fo rboth time and money played - so even if you only bet 5cents a go you'll still get something!

Have a fab time!

would go to the bellagio if budget allows

MonkeyandBabyBoo · 17/07/2007 12:56

Oh Vegas is FANTASTIC! We got married there. We stayed in the Luxor for the first week then came back after a few days in LA and stayed in the Monte Carlo before heading off to Sedona. Both are very nice hotels. If you want somewhere a bit more upmarket then Mandalay Bay, Bellagio or the Venetian.

We drove to the Grand Canyon and did it in one day - I would recommend that if you do that trip by car then stay there overnight.

Would also recommend Hoover Dam. The shopping malls in the hotels are excellent but can be a bit pricey. There is a huge outlet just outside Vegas which was brilliant. It had Bonnie and Clydes car on display.

Have a great time we hope to go back one day when the kids are older.

I have stayed in The Venetian and in the MGM. The Venetian is nicer than MGM although the pool area at the MGM is nicer but we ended spending up most of our time in Paris and in The Bellagio. I think The Bellagio looks the nicest, and their buffet is amazing.

If you are splashing out go for a meal in the Eiffel Tower. its expensive but exchange rate is good and you get such a fabulous view of the Bellagio fountains, that its worth it.

Frizbe · 17/07/2007 22:18

Defo the Bellagio then, or if you can afford it, and if its open yet, the new Wynn hotel? 'wanders off to check it out on web' oh it is!! www.wynnlasvegas.com/main.cfm?s=&ss=

Mind you venetian and Mandalay Bay are great too! Have personally only stayed in the Stratosphere and the Luxor, so can only dream of the luxury at the others!

Merlin · 17/07/2007 22:19

Venetian for me too! We were upgraded to a HUGE suite, with an entrance hall with cloakroom, lounge with bar at one end complete with bar stools and TV screens overhead!!! MAHOOSIVE jacuzzi bath and shower too - I could stand at one end while Dh showered and not get wet!!!

I'm jealous now - do you need someone to carry your bags?

itchyncsratchy · 17/07/2007 22:47

ooh I recommend the venetian too, pretty and very camp but I would say take the cheapest room. We actually downgraded our room as booked a 2 room suite but it wasn't so great and had a frosted glass partion door. All the rooms are suites though, lots of space, bathroom/ dressing room. Also has good shopping downstairs and proper mall on the corner.
Bellagio cafe overlooking waterfalls is perfect for breakfast, espresso martinis and all that. Best dinner at Picassos, incredible eating in a restaurant with 15 Picassos hung casually about the room!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 18/07/2007 07:11

Bellagio or Four Seasons (atop the Mandalay Bay) would be my picks.

Standard rooms in the Venetian are not suites, its just one room on two levels (has a step separating one part from another).

copycat · 21/07/2007 22:28

Have stayed in the Venetian (with DH and the kids) and Bellagio (no kids) and would definitely be happy to return to either. The Wynn hotel is open but it is end of strip and whilst beautiful is a little out of the way compared to Bellagio and the Venetian. Go with Bellagio if your budget allows.
Have a fabulous time.

Frizbe · 23/07/2007 21:36

The new Wynn is next to the Venetian!! no where near the end of the strip slap bang in the middle!

mamama · 23/07/2007 21:38

Bellagio is fab - excellent location, right in the middle of the strip. Likewise Caesar's Palace (which I LOVE) & the Venetian. You can visit all the other hotels easily from any of these.
