How strict are Ryanair with hand luggage

I'm due to fly with them in a few weeks and was going to use this bag

the website measurements state its max dimensions are 53x27x24 but ryanair policy is 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.

It wont be full so i could theoretically squash it down into the cage things they have but dont want to end up getting fined so not sure whether its worth booking the extra baggage now to be on the safe side

Download their app, there's a tool where you take a pic of your bag & they tell you whether it's acceptable size

They have changed their policy recently, it's only a small bag that you can take, if you want to take a larger hand luggage you have to pay for priority.

I wouldn't risk a bag with 2 dimensions that are well over their limits, it would need to be nearly empty to squash down and they still might not accept it.

It costs from about £12 return to take a small case into the cabin or about £16 to check a small case weighing no more than 10 kg into the hold. Unless you are going for a day or two and can wear most of what you need, I would do that.

Ryanair are very strict on luggage-I've seen them deny boarding to three (admittedly not very compliant) woman, one of who then fainted and they didn't budge an inch. If you want more, just add it on at the checkout, we always add on a suitcase in the cabin for £6 each, each way.

Ryan air are very strict, I wouldn’t risk it.
