Oxford - Places to stay and things to do

Hi, my DH and I are planning a trip to Oxford for a weekend in the next month or so and I am after advice on places to stay and things to do whilst we are there. I will be happy looking at the surroundings and having a nice pub lunch or two, but if you think there are things that are really worth doing then I’d love to hear about them. Thanks.

The main drawback to Oxford is the parking situation. It is best to park at the park and ride and go in on the bus. Our DS1 did his degree at Oxford so we would stay at the Holiday Inn at Peartree Mead and catch the bus in. If you want to stay somewhere romantic or boutiquey in Central Oxford I suggest you travel by train. Al Shami is a lovely Lebanese restaurant in Jerico, very atmospheric and quite inexpensive. If you have a wander round Jerico there are lots of nice places to have cocktails.

Thanks higgyhog that’s answered one of my big questions, whether to stay centrally or get a park and ride.

If you have time, Blenheim Palace - there's a bus from Oxford if you don't want to drive - and cream tea in Woodstock afterwards.

We stayed here www.ethoshotels.co.uk/?trkid=V3ADW431571_68913861081_kwd-11003725642__325130114859_g_m__&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtr_mBRDeARIsALfBZA7F8dWmQ7h5VcxzObHAXKvilkA_X9GWBWHbsu6ULWStHWM-jnpU63saAl3xEALw_wcB which has parking so you can walk to Oxford city centre easily.
If you get there early you should ask for an upgrade, we got a fabulous suite
