Lido, Venice. Anyone been

DH and I are thinking about taking the DC to Venice in late May.

Have found a few apartments on Lido that are in our price range. Can't really afford the main island. I wasn't sure at first, but looking at it, you then get a mix of beach holiday combined with city break a short water bus ride away.

Has anyone been to Lido before? Did you enjoy it? Anything I need to know when visiting with DC? what's the beach like and is it expensive to hire the loungers/umbrellas?

Is it is as easy as I think to get around on the Vaparettos? Last time I visited venice (many years ago) it seemed easy enough but we were in the main area back then.

We would be buying a 3 day flex ticket and staying about 10 mins by foot from the vaparetto stations on Lido

Sorry, so many questions!

we stayed at the Hotel Panorama on the Lido. It was February, so we didn't do the beach, but found transport excellent and would stay there again

I had a lovely holiday there. I can’t remember the details about the beach etc but there was plenty to do and I would love to go again.

Do it. Big lovely beaches, vapatetto really easy to bus about on.

Lido is lovely! We've stayed there loads and it's only a short boat ride to the main island. You can see the main island stood at the vaperetto stop! It's very easy to get around from there and the 3 day pass works from there. As I recall the boats run quite late into the night back from the main island as well.
The beach is nice and with children it's a good way to chill out... I think main Venice can be very stressful with young children because of the crowds and the amount of walking. It's nice to have the option of spending a day relaxing. Plus the food on the Lido is a fraction of the price of the food on the main island but still very nice. And it's just much more relaxed and less crowded. It's a great place to stay I prefer it to the main island now we have children.

I didnt stay on the lido but I did a day trip there from the main but of venice and it was so quick! If you can only afford to go by staying on the lido then I would 100% stay there Smile one of my favourite memories is sitting outside a cafe on the lido looking towards the main island - I got some beautiful photos and it was so serene and calming watching boats go past

We stayed there during the Festical in Feb . The only catch is that you have to get a water taxi or vaperetto home. You might have to wait for the vaperetto, but you'll be fine if you get a timetable. We didn't find this a big problem.

It's quieter than the main island, but perfectly nice. \

No idea about the beach. Sorry.

Thank you all. It sounds lovely. Think I might go for it Smile

There’s the Lido de Jesolo & an area called Lido which has a beach. Never been to Lido but if you are referring to Lido de Jesolo it’s a man made split with a beach backed by a road & a hodge podge of hotels. I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy & it was the least attractive place I’ve been too - however some people do like it for a beach & a bit of culture (Venice) holiday. Lido looks much nicer.

We stayed on the Lido & loved it. Fun to get off the Vaperetto at a different stop on the main island each time and then wander/ explore.

The children will love this tour. Book now from UK palazzoducale.visitmuve.it/en/pianifica-la-tua-visita/special-itineraries/secret-itineraries-tour/

Lido di Jesolo? Hotel Principle Palace - a fabulous family run hotel with fantastic food. If I am wrong then sorry but it is still worth a visit and by booking with them and not Tui.

ProbablyMyMillionthNameChange · 30/04/2019 21:54

it's not Lido de Jesolo it's the island that's just called Lido

So, now I'm trying to decide if it's best to get the ACTV 3 day pass or the alilaguna one. I'm thinking ACTV looks better as seems to have more routes and it's cheaper.

Would get the alilaguna line from Lido to the airport though as they seem to go right to the airport

Anyone know which is best?

We stayed at the Excelsior. We found some great places to eat with dcs - very chilled and Italian. Much more relaxed than "real" Venice for children - lovely to come back to at the end of the day.
