Baby milk on board easy jet

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 24/04/2019 00:42

Called up easy jet yesterday asking if I can take formula on board and also cook boiled water for my 5month old babies feed, she said take the powder (formula) and they will give you water... I’m guessing the water they give won’t be sterilised.

Does anyone know if I can or can’t take it on board? Also it’s not a problem to take 2 Boxes of Cow & Gates stage 1 formula in check in baggage is it?

Many thanks x

No problem in check in baggage (wrap well to make sure it doesn't spill!)

They should let you take baby milk on board but they can make you taste it at security and then of course it's no longer sterile. They might give you boiling water to make it and mineral water to top up. Can you buy ready made in Boots airside? That would make the whole thing much easier!

You could place an order for liquid baby formula to be delivered to boots and collected airside
E.g. for Birmingham airport
www.birminghamairport.co.uk/at-the-airport/shops-at-birmingham-airport/boots/
There is a guidance document for baby milk

I took ready made formula no problems. I also had water in a bottle also no problems. Only long wait on security as need to be checked.

They will give you boiled water if it's for baby formula. Of course they will.

Follow the airline's advice.

You can take liquid/readymade formula in hand luggage. They scan it at security with a machine.

Don’t give the baby the hot water on the plane. It can contain a lot of bacteria that might not cause you any harm but could make a baby very unwell.

As it’s a short flight I’d do one of the following:

  • Take ready made which would be my preferred option, it is fine to take through security in reasonable quantities for your flight
  • Pre make your bottles, again fine to take through security, ask crew to warm them
  • Take only the powder through security and make them up with safe boiling water from an airport coffee shop just before boarding
  • You can take cool boiled water in a bottle for a baby through security but that’s not a recommended way of making bottles. If you’re going to do like that regardless or if you have weaning baby that drinks water, I’d save the hassle and just pick up a large bottle of Evian (which is safe for babies) once airside.

Allow extra time for security, they will run some or all of the liquids through a special scanner and sometimes there’s a wait. Make sure you have the baby with you.

Powdered or ready made formula in your luggage is also fine!

Have a good holiday Grin
